Our story:
A reputation of consistency
and trust, 50 years in the making.

Malcolm Hughes was founded in 1977, as a single surveying practice. Since then, it’s grown into one of the largest Chartered Land Surveyors in the UK, with teams working nationwide across England, Scotland and Wales.

Our growth didn’t happen by accident. It came from bringing together some of the country’s most established surveying names, one relationship, one project, and one merger at a time.

Four businesses, five decades, one story.

Each business built its own reputation long before joining Malcolm Hughes, working across different regions and disciplines for decades. Here’s how they came together to form the practice we are today.

1975

Longdin & Browning founded

Established in 1975, Longdin & Browning built a reputation for large-scale topographical surveys, particularly in the highways sector and for the Environment Agency.

Loy Surveys was established in Scotland, building a strong regional reputation that would see it complete more than 10,000 surveys over the following decades.

2006

2014

2017

2018

One name: Malcolm Hughes

All four businesses were brought together under a single name, Malcolm Hughes, unifying decades of separate expertise into one nationwide surveying practice.

Today, our history shows up in the work: on the Mersey Gateway Bridge, on the Glasgow Subway, and on infrastructure projects across Defence, Transport, Energy and the Public Sector, where clients need a partner who’s done this before and knows exactly what the work demands.

50 years isn’t just a headline.
It’s the reason we can take on the projects other firms can’t.
